Scholarships, fellowships available to young scientists in South Carolina
South Carolina Science Olympiad competitors have several financial and experiential opportunities available to them this spring and summer in order to help them take the next step in their education or help them find or refine their passion for STEM.
The Science Olympiad Founders Scholarship is awarded annually to five graduating high school seniors who were a member of a registered Division C team for the 2024-25 season. Each scholarship is awarded in the amount of $10,000. For more information, and to apply, visit https://www.soinc.org/programs/scholarships. The deadline to apply is midnight CST (1:00 a.m. ET) on Monday, April 14. Winners will be announced on May 8!
For students looking to further their STEM education this summer, consider the Summit STEM Fellowship! The Summit STEM Fellowship (SSF) is a virtual summer program empowering the next generation of leaders in STEM. Students explore diverse opportunities and career pathways in STEM, learn from a network of mentors from Harvard, Stanford, MIT, and join a global alumni community spanning over 30 countries. The fellowship is a flexible 10-15 hours / week commitment, and students may participate alongside other summer programs. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and students are encouraged to apply as early as possible. For more information, please visit the program website: www.summitstemfellowship.org. For any inquiries, please email info@summitstemfellowship.org.
Finally, Science Olympiad is now taking applications for its Coaching Excellence Award. Nominations can be made by students or fellow coaches, and self-nominations are also permitted! Two winners will receive free registration to the 2025 Science Olympiad Build Clinic, held in-person in Illinois, and four additional winners will receive free registration to the 2025 Virtual Event Bootcamp. Both events allow coaches to get the most up-to-date information and in-depth explanations about the 46 Division B and Division C events for the 2026 season from Science Olympiad National Rules Committee Chairs and top National Event Supervisors and staff. The awards are open to any faculty coach on a registered 2023-24 season Division B or Division C team in the United States. Applications close April 22 and winners will be announced in May!
